Family Treasure

Chapter 1

Well, it started out as a normal day. Wake up, go to school, be welcomed in your classroom by a smile from you teacher. Do BUTT-LOADS of work, all up to about lunchtime. All of a sudden,FUZZZZ....."Mr. Kelmore?" Mrs. Stanger, the secretary, asked over the intercom.

"Yes?" Mr. Kelmore answered.

"Can you send Annie Seldon to the office please?"

Then, at that moment, I heard whispers cover the room like a blanket. I got up and slowly walked towards the door.

When I got to the office, I went to Mrs. Stanger's desk and asked,"Am I in trouble?"

Mrs. Stanger chuckled. "Of course not, dear. You've got a phone call."

A sigh of relief came over me. "OK. Were can I take the call?"

"In the room right over there." She pointed to a small room next to the principal's office.

It was the worst phone call ever. I was stone solid. I couldn't talk back to my mother for at least a minute. My heart was racing as fast as lightning. I just didn't let myself believe anything that my mom had just said. I tried pinching my arm to see if I was dreaming, but of course, I wasn't. It was all true. My dad had been in the worst crash ever, With his motorcycle!!!!!

Chapter 2

once my brain was connected again, I couldn't stop asking questions. How was he? How did it happen? Where is he now? I was so scared. I took a long, relaxing breath, and my mother answered,"He is in the local hospital and incognitos. I'll explained later. I'm going to come pick you up from school. Make sure you are ready and in the office. Tell Mr. Kelmore and the secretary."

O.K. All I could say was O.K. I still didn't know what to think about this whole blur. I hung up and rushed to Mrs. Stanger's desk.

"Oh dear! I'm so sorry." She replied.

I left and went back to the 5th grade classroom. I motioned Mr.Kelmore over like I was a secret agent or something. I explained to him what had happened.

"Oh, my!" Was his recall. "Go ahead and get your stuff. I would hate to load you up on homework so go, hurry! And tell your mom that if you can't make it to school tomorrow, that's all right." He is my dad's friend, so that is probably why he's so dramatic.

I hurried to the closet, gripped my book bag, and rushed out the door. I could hear my classmates chittering between each other. Asking, "What is she saying?" and "Why is Mr. Kelmore Acting so weird?'"

Chapter 3

It all felt like a dream. The first time I saw my dad in that hospital bed, I just couldn't look. His face, his hands, his hair. It didn't look like the same dad I had kissed on the cheek and left for school early this morning.

His face was all scratched, and bruised, and bloody. His hair was ruffled, half bandaged, half not.

He had on an oxygen mask. It almost looked like he wasn't breathing, but somehow, I knew he was. It felt like there was an angel in the room with me, helping me face the reality.

I went to where my mom was sitting. I glanced at the clock. It was 9:30 p.m. I slowly yawned and walked to a chair near my mom to sit down. All I remember was the buzz of the lights, and every once in awhile the lady at the front desk asking over the intercom for the different doctors. I slowly faded into a relieving sleep. a sleep I'd been longing for since

5:00 p.m.

Chapter 4

"NO!" I screamed at the top of my lungs. "It can't be happening!" I was kneeling by a grave with the name Dave Seldon on it. My mother was crying next to me.

I woke up to the sound of my mother saying,"Honey, honey, wake up." It felt so real. All I could think about was my future, my dad's future, and the dream.

I got up. My mom had gone down to the cafe and got some rolls and juice, But I wasn't hungry. I took a little bit of roll, and layed it in my mouth. Right when I had finished my

first swallow of juice, a doctor came over to my mom and I. He said his name was Dr.Laten.

He motioned my mom aside, and talked to her for a good 10 minutes. Man, did I long to know what they were saying. My mother came back over to me.

she said," Dr.Laten thinks that dad is going to be all right. He is now breathing by himself, but the worst part is that he is paralyzed from the waist down. He has to be in a wheelchair for the rest of his life.

Chapter 5

At first I thought it was horrible that my dad was going to be in a wheelchair for the

rest of his life. but I realized tat it was better him being alive, even without working legs, than being gone.

It's been a month since daddy got out of the hospital. It seems that we've spent more time together now. I've been thanking god each night . I've never been so glad in my life that he is alive. It was a close call for my dad. I couldn't imagine life without him. It was certainly one of gods miracles put in play.

Him being alive, even in a wheelchair, is our family treasure.
